Where The River Moves You

Nestled along the banks of the Lumber River, downtown Lumberton is fortunate in having a National Register Commercial Historic District consisting of approximately 89 commercial structures dating from 1840-1941.

Our commitment to the North Carolina Main Street Program is a major step towards accomplishing our revitalization goals. The Main Street Program is a preservation-based revitalization program, which maintains the historic architecture of downtown while increasing economic growth and stability within the area to create a community transformation.

As Lumberton's Downtown Development Coordinator, it is my job to work with both the private and public sectors to implement the Main Street Program's 4-point approach.  The Four Points include:

  1. Design supports a community's transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.
  2. Economic Vitality focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drive local economies.
  3. Promotion positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases a community's unique characteristics.
  4. Organization involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.

Through the partnership efforts of Rediscover Downtown Lumberton (RDL) and the City of Lumberton,  Downtown Lumberton has seen new downtown projects and community involvement. To learn more about RDL, visit their website at www.rediscoverdowntownlumberton.org
