NC Main Street Community

The City of Lumberton is a designated North Carolina Main Street Community! We were first designated in 1988, and with pride and a genuine love for our Downtown, we renew this designation each year.

Our renewed commitment to the North Carolina Main Street Program is a major step towards accomplishing our revitalization goals. The Main Street Program is a preservation-based revitalization program, which maintains the historic architecture of downtown while increasing economic growth and stability within the area to create a community transformation.

Community Transformation Strategies are implemented through comprehensive work in four broad areas, know as the Four Points.  The Four Points include:

  1. Design supports a community's transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.
  2. Economic Vitality focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drive local economies.
  3. Promotion positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases a community's unique characteristics.
  4. Organization involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.
