NC Main Street Community
The City of Lumberton is a designated North Carolina Main Street Community! We were first designated in 1988, and with pride and a genuine love for our Downtown, we renew this designation each year.
Our renewed commitment to the North Carolina Main Street Program is a major step towards accomplishing our revitalization goals. The Main Street Program is a preservation-based revitalization program, which maintains the historic architecture of downtown while increasing economic growth and stability within the area to create a community transformation.
Community Transformation Strategies are implemented through comprehensive work in four broad areas, know as the Four Points. The Four Points include:
- Design supports a community's transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the commercial district apart.
- Economic Vitality focuses on capital, incentives, and other economic and financial tools to assist new and existing businesses, catalyze property development, and create a supportive environment for entrepreneurs and innovators that drive local economies.
- Promotion positions the downtown or commercial district as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while creating a positive image that showcases a community's unique characteristics.
- Organization involves creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.
