The Lumber River, beginning in Hoke County and flowing through Scotland, Robeson and Columbus Counties, is a unique, 115 miles of state natural and scenic waters in southeastern North Carolina, 81 miles of which are also designated national wild and scenic waters by the National Park Service.  The rivers black waters, a favorite for fishermen and naturalists, meanders through the area and is a popular way to enjoy the scenery.

Kayakers and canoeists alike enjoy the flat water of the river as they are canopied by the moss covered cypress trees bordering the river banks.  To locate the Lumber River State Park take Exit 13-A from I-95, travel east on Hwy. 74 and look for signs.
